Widmer Upheaval IPA

This 7.2% ABV India Pale Ale has 85 IBU's and is from Widmer Brothers Brewing of Portland, Oregon. It uses a plethora of hops: Alchemy, Simcoe, Chinook, Williamette, Brewer's Gold, and Nelson Sauvin. It uses wheat malt and is unfiltered.

The beer pours amber and copper in color. There is a relatively s hort head of white to off-white foam. The aroma is hoppy, fruity, melons, light tropical fruit, passion fruit, a bit spicy. The taste is smooth, round fruit, melons and tangerines, over a light caramel malt base that doesn’t counter the hops, but holds it up unobtrusively. The finish is moderately bitter, adding a grapefruit quench. It is medium bodied and smooth. An all around decent IPA, but Widmer has made much better too.
