Schell's 30th Anniversary Hefeweizen Series Dampfbier

This beer is part of the 30th Anniversary Hefeweizen Series from the August Schell Brewing Company of New Ulm, Minnesota. They were established in 1860 and I believe they are the second oldest family owned brewery in the United States, behind Yuengeling (this is the 30th anniversary of their original hefeweizen release, not of the brewery itself). This sampler pack contained the 1984 Recipe, the 2014 Recipe, a Weizenbock, and a Dampfbier.

Unlike most weiss, or wheat beers, this is an all malt beer, but still made with a traditional weissbeer yeast. The beer pours a golden amber in color. There is a foamy head of off-white that fizzles away relatively rapidly. The aroma is banana and clove, yeasty, with a roasted rye-like note. The taste follows the aromas directly, lots of weiss yeast notes and then sweet and spicy on the finish, with a fruity tang. Interesting and very drinkable.
